Why should I seal coat my driveway?

How
often should I seal coat?
To get the
most protection and maximize the life of your
driveway most asphalt manufacturers recommend seal
coating every 2 to 3 years depending on the amount
of traffic
on the driveway and weather conditions.
When
is the best time to seal coat?
Usually the
best time to seal coat is from late April on through
October, depending on the temperature, or as long as it
is above 50 degrees. However, it is better to
schedule early in the year to avoid the fall rush.
How
long should I stay off the driveway once it is
sealed?
Generally
speaking you should stay off the driveway for 48
hours after it has been sealed. If there is a lot
of shade on the driveway or very humid, additional
time may be required for the sealer to dry
completely.
What
must I do before and after sealing?
Remove all
vehicles and objects from the areas to be sealed.
Turn off
sprinkler system prior to arrival and for 48 hours
after sealing.
Do not apply
any lawn fertilizers for several days prior or after
seal coating.
Do not use
any spray on or brush on wheel cleaners on driveway
after seal coating or they may stain the driveway.

Will sealing my
driveway smooth out the surface?
No. Sealer is
designed to protect and extend the life of asphalt surfaces it is
not designed to change the texture of asphalt or fill in low spots.
Are crack repairs
permanent?
Generally they are only a
temporary fix and over time they may reopen requiring
additional applications of crack filler.
Note: crack repairs may
still be visible after sealing.
